Dear NewsHounds:
Every week, you are to log onto NewsHounds and post something about a news story that strikes you as important/interesting/weird. You must include the URL and a comment about why you think it's worth your (and our) attention.
Everyone else should comment on one another's stories.
You may post more than one if you are so inspired.
For example, here's one link that may interest you. I think it's interesting to see how the president waffles on important issues (See URL.)
Closer to home, here's a link to the SLTribune about the kidnapping, abuse and murder of a 7-year-old. I find this a horrifying story, and equally horrifying that the Herald Journal didn't consider it newsworthy. Wonder why?
Get it?

I thought this article i found was really interesting. I was looking for background info on Markos Moulitsas ZĂșniga from the Daily Kos and this is one thing i found.

It really made me laugh. I thought it was news worthy.

From PEASE--
Some pretty compelling stories in the news this morning:
From the SLTribune (http:www.sltrib.com):
• LazyBoy closing in Tremonton--ugly chairs, an American pop culture icon, and a huge impact on a small town;
• The Crandall mining tragedy--the company was among the worst in the U.S. for safety practices? http://www.sltrib.com/ci_8806779
• Aftermath of the Hser Nay Moo killing in South Salt Lake. http://www.sltrib.com/ci_8806772
• The continuing saga of Obama-Hillary and superdelegates.
More to come. That's the thing with news...there's always something tragic/amusing/compelling/important/NEW!

Here's another one. Turns out there are (at least!) 20 journalists in prison in Cuba.
Thought you might be interested in reading this article from the Web site of the Committee to Protect Journalists: http://www.cpj.org/blackspring/index.html
Censorship? Theft? Just dumb?

this story is so strange, stem cell research has been in the news so often lately, but I found this on Perez Hiltons website! I find it obscene that they even attempted to cross breed humans and cows, It is definately monstrous.
I think the Olympic torch protests are very intresting. China has called the Olympic torch relay the "Journey of Harmony," but it has been anything but that. The torch has been put out several times and has had to travel by bus. Also in San Francisco they are thinking about changing the route and keeping it a secret.

Slate Magazine reported that Clinton's senior campaign strategist, Mark Penn, has just "stepped down" (i.e., forced out) from his position after it was revealed that he was supporting a trade agreement with Colombia that Clinton has vehemently opposed. Now, according to Slate, the Clinton campaign is using Penn as a scapegoat, blaming him for the long list of Clinton miscues and shortcomings during this rollercoaster-ride election. I thought it was interesting.
I read an article about a day in the life of missionaries. It was about how they spread the word of the Gospel and what they did on a daily basis. I thought it would be interesting to write about the culture shock that they could experience going to another country and how they adjust to this new world.
